Silver Linings Playbook- Lawrence's Breakthrough

A lot of recommendations and vacation joblessness are the only reasons that drove me towards watching  this hollywood flick. Rated well on IMDb. The film is centered mainly around Bradley Cooper and Lawrence.
Bradley is this guy who gets out of a psychiatric clinic located in Baltimore. He has been admitted there because his inappropriate behavior and constant mood swings that have been a result of his Bipolar Personality. There are situations where he experiences something similar to a seizure and gets totally out of control and does random and vague things. The movie opens with a paper stuck on the wall of what is presumably Bradley's room in the psychiatric clinic, the paper reads EXCELSIOR.
This word has quite a few future references, not that relevant references but I guess the director wanted some reference after all :P
Enter Bradley who takes a pill given to him  by the nurse and then spits it out later.

Bradley is shown talking to himself  about Sundays , how he always love Sundays and a brief description on what his regular Sunday used to be before he was admitted here in Baltimore

And then you see CHRIS TUCKER,  yeah you read it right.

I was like whaaaaaat? Where does Chris fit in , this isn't some action comedy after all :P
The basic idea is that a lot of patients are talking and sharing their day-to-day happenings and how these had an adverse effect on their perseverance.
The one thing I particularly didn't like about this movie is that it focuses on a number of issues which are completely unnecessary to the basic story.
That is one of the reasons it's duration is more than that of an average Hollywood Movie.
Okay, getting back to the story Bradley is taken home and has a 50 Ft. restraining order according to the random cop who keeps coming in all the time.
Before he is taken home the hospital makes it clear that he is still under treatment and shouldn't be taken back and that it doesn't bear liability of Bradley's future deeds.

Bradley's father is played by Robert De Niro. It is either his character or the way he has acted , but personally speaking, I found him to be quite an irritating personality throughout the movie. A character which does play a significant role but has been given more weight age than (I feel) is required.

Bradley meets Jen Lawrence via a friend, she looks quite hot throughout the entire movie, not many skimpy outfits, but still HOT.
There are numerous other probably significantly relevant scenes in the movie but I'll skip to the one where there is a barter between Cooper and Lawrence , where Cooper is supposed to partner with her  for a Dance Competition (which ends quite happily in the end), and Lawrence is supposed to deliver a letter to Nikki , Cooper's estranged wife , who he desperately wants to get back with. Now, Bradley gives his level bets effort in order to cope up with the dance routine.
Tiffany (Lawrence) gives Bradley a letter saying that Nikki asked her to give this to Cooper (Pat Jr.) as a reply to his earlier letter.
Later , Bradley reads the letter again and again and realizes that the terminology used in it is exactly matches Tiffany's way of speaking.
Voila, now he knows Tiffany wrote it.
A major disappointment was that this Nikki character was shown to be quite important throughout the 1st half of the movie but sadly Nikki has hardly a dialogue at the end, to think of it , not even a single dialogue.

De Niro is a typical American Father, watches games, bets and is somewhat eccentric. Cooper when meeting Anupam Kher (yes, you have a bollywood actor in it), his psychiatrist asserts that his father (De Niro) is crazy , also mentioning that he is banned from the stadium due to his habits.

There are a few instances of Cooper's chaotic activities scattered here and there.

Anupam Kher's on screen presence was appreciable, and his dialogues were that of a typical Indian over-expectant father.

Getting back to Chris Tucker, he plays the character of Danny , who keeps trying to escape the clinic numerous times.
There are a few other minutely relevant character's like Cooper's mom and his friend Ronnie who have short appearances..
Lawrence awesome screen presence as usual , HOT , perfect dialogues and expression of emotions.
You couldn't ask more.

The movie ends with a parlay, a term Anupam Kher has no idea of. On being questioned , it is explained that it is basically a double bet, in simple terms, you win if you win both else you loose.

De Niro can win this bet only if his favorite team wins against his friend's team and Cooper and Lawrence manage to score an average of at least 5 in the Dance Competition (which they eventually do)

The Dance Competition is a sad display of Coopers pathetic dancing skills and Lawrence's hotness quotient.

You get to see quite a few amazing moves by the fellow contestants who have been clearly showed as better  than the former.
The fellow dancers score an average of 6 or 6.5 and are saddened by their score. Cooper and Lawrence on the other hand scream in joy (much to the dancers' shock) when the scores are displayed and they have successfully managed to score an average of exactly 5.0.
The Parlay is won by Pat Sr. (De Niro).

The ending of the movie is quite romantic, Pat Jr. goes to Nikki (who had been one of the spectators) and whispers in her ear. He comes back and looks for Tiffany who ran out crying because Pat went after Nikki , she apparently can't digest the fact that after all that they've been through  Pat still loves Nikki and not her.
Pat chases her down , gives her a letter and asks her to read it, in the letter it's written that he loves her (Tiffany), basically implying that he loved her since the past week and this letter was written a week before. All this time, he didn't tell her but he actually fell in love with her.
They hug and kiss.
Brilliant End to the movie.

Jennifer Lawrence successfully bagged an Academy Award for this one making her the youngest person ever to be nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Actress and second-youngest Best Actress Winner.

So basically what I'm trying to say here  is :

All in all, a good film with a few questionable scenarios. Breakthrough of Lawrence's career and a milestone achievement in Cooper's. Anupam Kher's hollywood benchmark.

You are bound to hate Kher's accent, though.
